Fresh, fine fizz from Portugal’s Alvarinho pioneers.
Crisp, classy and joyfully drinkable, Soalheiro Espumante Bruto Alvarinho NV is a traditional-method sparkling wine that brings all the vibrant freshness of Vinho Verde to a bottle of bubbles. You’ll get aromas of green apple, lemon zest, and white flowers, with a hint of biscuit from time spent on the lees. On the palate, it’s dry and elegant, with tiny, persistent bubbles and flavours of citrus, orchard fruit, and a mineral lift that keeps everything zingy.
This is a sparkling Portuguese white wine made entirely from Alvarinho (Albarino) – a grape that brings both brightness and structure – making it perfect for aperitifs or food pairing.
Top food pairings:
Lightly battered fish and chips with lemon mayo
Vegan sushi rolls or tempura veg
Soft cheeses like Brie, Camembert or a creamy Delice de Bourgogne
“Who better than the original pioneers to showcase the zippy charm of Alvarinho in sparkling form. This has more character than your average bubbly. Zesty and dry, with a nice bready note from the traditional method. I love pouring it for friends who say they’re ‘not really into sparkling’ – they always end up loving it. A great alternative to Champagne or Cava, and fab with food too.”
Soalheiro isn’t just a benchmark for still Portuguese white wine – they also turn their hand to fizz with just as much care. Based in Monção e Melgaço, at the heart of the Vinho Verde region, the Cerdeira family were the first to plant Alvarinho as a standalone vineyard back in 1974. Today, they’re still leading the way, combining tradition with gentle innovation.
Soalheiro Espumante Bruto is a non-vintage sparkling wine made entirely from Alvarinho grapes. The fruit is picked a little earlier than for their still wines, to keep the natural acidity high and the style refreshingly dry.
How it’s made:
Crafted using the traditional method (just like Champagne), where the bubbles come from a second fermentation in the bottle.
Aged for around 18 months on its lees, giving that lovely biscuity complexity and finer bubbles.
The base wine is kept vibrant and pure, thanks to stainless steel fermentation and no oak.
This approach makes the wine bright, balanced and full of energy, with enough structure to enjoy as more than just a party popper.
