Kate Says
"This is one of those reds that disappears far too quickly – fresh, silky and dangerously drinkable. Rioja with a lighter, modern touch."
Producer Info
UKAN is a small, quality-focused winery led by Koldo Eguren, representing the newest generation of the Eguren family in Rioja Alavesa. Working with sustainably farmed, old-vine vineyards across villages such as Laguardia and Elciego, UKAN combines traditional Rioja know-how with a contemporary, minimal-intervention approach to express the diversity and elegance of the region.
How it’s made:
- Varieties: 100% Tempranillo
- Hand-harvested in small 15kg crates to protect fruit quality
- Double manual grape selection (bunches and individual berries)
- Cold maceration followed by fermentation in concrete tanks with gentle pump-overs
- 12 months ageing in French oak barrels for balance and finesse
