Mora & Memo, Nau Cannonau di Sardegna 2023

Get to know: Mora & Memo, Nau Cannonau di Sardegna

A bold, sun-soaked Sardinian red using the Cannonau grape.

Tasting Note

Nau Cannonau opens with lifted aromas of red berries, wild herbs and ripe plum, along with a hint of Mediterranean spice. On the palate, you’ll find juicy red fruit — think cherry, bramble and cranberry - framed by slightly savoury herbs and gentle tannins. It’s medium-bodied and fresh, with a clean, juicy finish that invites another sip.

Top food pairings:

  • Herb-roasted lamb skewers or pork meatballs
  • Tomato and olive pasta or grilled vegetable ratatouille
  • Cheese: Pecorino Sardo or aged hard sheep’s cheese
Kate Says

“I love this Cannonau - it's alive with fruit, a bit wild, and very food friendly. It has a lovely expressive and aromatic character with a lightness of touch. A great bottle to share around a table with a big Mediterranean spread."

Producer Info

Mora & Memo is a dynamic Sardinian project led by winemaker Francesco Fadda, championing indigenous grape varieties and low-intervention methods. Nau is made from Garnacha Grosso clone (Cannonau) grown on granitic, schist soils near the Mediterranean coast — grapes that thrive in the island’s heat and sea breeze.

The 2022 vintage reflects Sardinia’s coastal climate: warm, sunny days and cooling sea breezes help preserve acidity and lift. Grapes were hand-harvested, destemmed and fermented with native yeasts. The wine is aged briefly on fine lees in stainless steel before bottling, preserving freshness and character.

How it’s made:

  • 100% Cannonau (Garnacha Grosso) grown on granitic-schist soils in coastal Sardinia
  • Hand-harvested and fermented with native yeasts
  • Aged briefly on fine lees in stainless steel
  • No oak ageing — freshness and purity are key

Good to know:

  • Region: Sardegna IGP, Sardinia, Italy
  • Vintage: 2022
  • Grape: Cannonau (Garnacha Grosso)
  • ABV: 14%
  • Vegan: Yes
  • Style: Medium-bodied, aromatic red

Why we love it:

Nau Cannonau is a reminder that Sardinian reds don’t need to be heavy to be flavourful. Bright, aromatic and full of personality - great with food, friends and a sense of adventure.
