Lucien Collard, Champagne Grand Cru Vintage 2014

Get to know: Lucien Collard, Champagne Grand Cru Vintage 2014

Tasting note

This vintage is a blend of 20% Chardonnay and 80% Pinot Noir, with notes of apricot jam, plum crumble and bramley apple. An elegant aperitif which could also be served with white fish and meats.

Kate says

"We were delighted to discover the Champagnes of Lucien Collard at a recent tasting event. These guys are real perfectionists, with true attention to detail in everything they do. The Champagnes also enjoy a lengthy time ageing, which adds real richness. Just what I love."

Producer Info

The Collard family settled in Bouzy in 1919 when Lucien Collard (grandfather of the current owner of the House) married Julia Bara.  Wine was very much part of the family, with Julia coming from a family of winegrowers who had settled in this Grand Cru since 1833.

Lucien Collard and his God Daughter Auriane now create fabulous champagnes from two hectares of vines, one in Bouzy and one in Celles sur Ource in the Aube.

They maintain strict quality standards to ensure maximum respect for the terroir. Vines are treated with organic products (with supplements borrowed from biodynamic farming), they limit the use of sulphur, low dosage and extended ageing time to maintain top quality throughout. Prior to joining Lucien , Auriane spent a year with Jacquesson, voted third best of all Champagne Houses in the 2005 La Revue Des Vins De France,
