Get to know: Lake Breeze 'Bernoota' Shiraz Cabernet 2021

Big, bold and utterly moreish red from Australia's Langhorne Creek region.

Tasting Note

This rich, velvety red blend from Lake Breeze shows exactly why South Australia’s Langhorne Creek is a go-to for seriously good Shiraz and Cabernet. A full-bodied classic with depth, character and charm. Layers of blackberries, cassis and dark plum roll into notes of liquorice, chocolate mint and smoky oak. It’s plush, ripe and structured, with soft tannins and a long, warming finish. A powerful yet polished Aussie red.

Top food pairings:

  • Slow-cooked beef brisket with rosemary and garlic
  • Lamb chops with chargrilled aubergine
  • Extra mature Cheddar or vintage Red Leicester
Kate Says

"This is a great-value blockbuster red with everything you want from a top Aussie Shiraz-Cab blend – plush fruit, spicy depth, and beautifully integrated oak. A proper fireside bottle or perfect with rich roasts."

Producer Info

Lake Breeze is one of Australia's most awarded boutique wineries, run by the Follett family who’ve farmed these vineyards since the 1880s. Winemaker Greg Follett works with low-yielding old vines near Lake Alexandrina, making bold, expressive wines that capture the warmth and wildness of South Australia. ‘Bernoota’ takes its name from the Aboriginal term meaning ‘camp among the gum trees’ – a nod to the local landscape and culture.

How it’s made:

  • 60% Shiraz, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon from 40–50 year old vines
  • Small-batch open-top fermentation with skin contact for 7–10 days
  • Aged for 20 months in French and American oak barriques
  • Bottled unfiltered to preserve depth and texture

Good to know:

  • Region: Langhorne Creek, South Australia
  • Style: Full-bodied, rich red
  • ABV: 14.5%
  • Closure: Screwcap
  • Vegan: Yes
  • Organic: No

Why we love it:

It’s a full-on, crowd-pleasing red with silky richness and structure – and a great intro to the depth and quality South Australia can deliver.
