Get to know: L'Abeille de Fieuzal, Pessac-Leognan Blanc 2018
Tasting Note
A zesty, elegant white Bordeaux with real poise – perfect for seafood nights and summer sipping.
This second wine of the highly regarded Château de Fieuzal shows off the best of Pessac-Léognan Blanc – fresh, aromatic and refined. The nose is packed with citrus blossom, pink grapefruit, lemon zest and white peach, with a touch of smoky minerality in the background. On the palate, it's lively yet rounded, with crisp acidity, silky texture and a clean, stony finish.
Top food pairings:
- Grilled seabass with fennel and lemon
- Vegan asparagus risotto with almond cream
- Cheese: Try it with Crottin de Chavignol (goat’s cheese) or a crumbly Wensleydale
Ideal for garden lunches or when you want a white that’s got more to say than your average Sauvignon.
Kate Says
“Absolutely love this – it’s got all the freshness you’d expect from a white Bordeaux, but with extra layers of citrus, soft stone fruits and a subtle mineral edge. Stylish and balanced. A real treat for lovers of Sancerre or white Burgundy looking to branch out.”
Producer Info
Château de Fieuzal is one of the historic estates of Pessac-Léognan, with roots tracing back to the 16th century. It’s now run by the Quinn family, who’ve brought modern precision to traditional winemaking. L’Abeille de Fieuzal – meaning “Fieuzal’s bee” – is their second wine, made with fruit from younger vines but crafted with the same care and attention.
How it’s made:
- A blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, the classic Bordeaux white duo
- Gentle pressing and temperature-controlled fermentation
- Aged partly in oak barrels for added roundness and complexity
- No over-oaking here – just enough to soften the edges and enhance the fruit
The 2018 vintage was warm and balanced, giving the wine ripe fruit character and vibrant acidity – a winning combo.
