Herdade de Sao Miguel Branco 2024

Get to know: Herdade de São Miguel Colheita Seleccionada Branco

A beautifully expressive Portuguese white wine from the warm, sun-drenched hills of Alentejo.

Tasting Note

Herdade de São Miguel Colheita Seleccionada Branco 2024 is a vibrant, flavour-packed blend that shows the hallmark purity of this excellent vintage. Yellow-citrus in colour with aromas of tropical fruit, white flowers, and gentle notes of butter and coconut from partial oak fermentation. On the palate it’s lively and full-bodied, with fresh Arinto-driven acidity, ripe stone fruit depth, and a subtle mineral edge. The finish is long, harmonious and beautifully balanced. A brilliant example of modern Alentejo white wine at its most characterful.

Top food pairings:

  • Roast chicken or other flavourful poultry dishes
  • Well-seasoned white fish or cod
  • Garlic prawns and other seafood classics
Kate Says

"I adore Portuguese whites for their easy balance, and this one hits the sweet spot — clean, fresh and full of citrus and soft stone fruit. Think of it as a riper Gavi or a gentler, softer Albariño. It’s not zippy like Sauvignon or creamy like white Rioja, but sits beautifully in the middle: a perfect bridge between bright summer whites and something a touch more rounded for the cooler months."

Producer Info

Casa Relvas is a family-run winery based near Évora, respected for producing authentic, expressive wines that celebrate the landscapes of Alentejo. Founded in 1997 by Alexandre Relvas, the estate is now driven forward by his sons Alexandre Jr and António, together with Head Winemaker Nuno Franco. Their flagship property, Herdade de São Miguel, sits among vineyards, cork forest, olive groves and grazing Merino sheep – a snapshot of the region’s agricultural heritage.

The team farm a patchwork of schist and granite soils, prioritising sustainability and careful vineyard management to preserve local biodiversity. Their white wines balance ripe fruit with freshness thanks to gentle handling, cool fermentation, and selective use of oak.

How it’s made:

  • Varieties: Antão Vaz, Verdelho, Arinto, Viognier and others
  • Hand harvested to protect aroma and freshness
  • Total destemming and a short 8–12 hour maceration before pressing
  • Cool fermentation at 15–18°C in stainless steel vats (50%) and 400L oak barrels
  • Four months of ageing in 400L oak barrels for added texture

Good to know:

  • Region: Alentejo, Portugal
  • Style: White, full-bodied
  • Closure: Cork
  • Vegan: Not specified
  • ABV: 12.5%

Why we love it:

This Alentejo white wine brings together citrus brightness, tropical fruit richness, and a polished hint of oak – a winning combination that’s as versatile with food as it is enjoyable on its own. A confident, characterful blend that shows just how exciting modern Portuguese whites can be.
