Inspired by The Passenger, the pop-rock anthem by the iconic Iggy Pop, this wine expresses Domaine Gayda's nomadic spirit. Travelling, with rucksack on their back, they are guided by the search for unusual terroirs, pausing for a moment to reflect on the creation of these unique blends… just passing through…
The wine is a bright and youthful blend of 80% Syrah and 20% Carignan. The nose reveals notes of fresh red fruit such as wild raspberry and Mara des Bois strawberries with fresh, tangy notes of gooseberry and blackcurrant syrup. The palate is well-balanced, with supple tannins. It is layered with spices and finishes with a note of white pepper.
Try this with roast lamb or beef, mature cheddar or a herby bean stew.
This red is bold yet smooth, with vibrant dark fruit and a hint of spice that makes it stand out among the wonderful wines of Domaine Gayda. It's perfect for entertaining, pairing beautifully with roasted meats or grilled veggies. A fantastic choice for any laid-back dinner!
"As it does every year, this lip-smacking sweet-talker of a wine never fails to charm. Just the right amount of everything: oodles of ripe red fruit, a smacker kiss of spice, a long slow lick of liquorice and minty-oil bitters, plumpy plush tannins and a buzz of acidity. The wine that you simply Cannot Go Wrong With. Seriously, if I was holding a very big party, the Gayda En Passant white and red would be the wines on the tables."
2021 Vintage - Jancis Robinson (TC), Oct. 2022
Domaine Gayda, nestled in Brugairolles near Carcassonne, is distinguished by a rich history and a philosophy focused on integrity and quality. Founded in 1749 as a coaching inn the farm buildings were gradually transformed into luxury accommodation, marking the beginning of a remarkable transformation. In 2004, under the enlightened leadership of owners Tim Ford and Anthony Record, in partnership with talented winemaker Vincent Chansault, the estate took a new turn by modernizing significantly.
The fruit is from the Roussillon on Gneiss vineyards. Syrah harvested at full maturity of the fruit to express its richness and aged in 5+ year old barrels. The Carignan pressed in whole bunches for its bright and lifted fruit which is preserved by aging in stainless steel vats.
