Casa Balaguer, Tragolargo Blanco 2023

Get to know: Casa Balaguer Tragolargo Blanco 2023

Tasting Note

Here’s one for the adventurous wine drinkers. Casa Balaguer’s Tragolargo Blanco 2023 is an organic orange wine from sunny Valencia, and it’s got bags of personality. Made mostly with Moscatel grapes, along with Malvasia and Merseguera, it’s as natural as they come – no sulphites, minimal intervention, and a 30 days of skin contact to give it that golden glow. For those who like their wine a bit different – and a lot delicious

On the nose, it’s all orange blossom and fennel – fresh, floral, and a little bit herbal. Take a sip, and you’re greeted with apricot, a touch of sweetness upfront, and a savoury twist that dries out nicely on the finish.

Try this with charcuterie, roasted chicken or pork, grilled veg, or even a bit of spice. A proper versatile drop that’s as easygoing as it is intriguing.

Kate Says

As Orange wines becomes more popular we're always on the look out for great bottles that balance the texture of skin-contact white with great fruit. This gets very drinkable wine form Casa Balaguer ticks all the boxes. I'd enjoy with a fish curry.

Producer Info

Casa Balaguer owners Andres Carull and Martina Ribera are the third generation of vine growers at the estate, continuing the hard work started by their grandparents over 65 years ago. As the first generation to make bottled wine their philosophy is to produce high quality wines with as little human intervention in the winery as possible. In order to achieve this the work that takes place in their fields is fundamental. Everything is done to favour the best quality grapes produced under the strict principles of organic and biodynamic agriculture.

Tragolargo white wine is made from Moscatel vines located in the Salinas de la Mata Natural Park in Torrevieja and Malvasía from Puerto de La Harina Estate in Villena. Booth plots have very sandy and saline soils.

The grapes are hand harvested in July – August using small crates. After a strict selection process at the winery the grapes are then gently fermented with the skins with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks. Contact time with skins 30 days. The Moscatel ferments in inox tanks and the Malvasia in concrete vats.
