This is a cracking wine with real character, showing off what Grenache, the pride of the southern Rhône Valley, can do. It’s got lovely aromas of dark berry fruits and a touch of spice – think pepper, thyme, and a bit of that earthy garrigue you get in the south of France. It’s smooth and full-bodied, with silky tannins that keep things elegant. You’ll pick up hints of undergrowth and liquorice, and the finish brings in wild red fruits and black cherries. A proper treat, this one.
Enjoy with a fresh mushroom omelette, beef tenderloin, homemade burger, veal blanquette or couscous. Or with a creamy cow's cheese such as Romans d'Isère.
"If you enjoy red wines, make this year the one you try more Rhone Valley reds, starting right here with this gem. All the savoury, spicy, fruit you need and a joy to pair with BBQ food."
Since 1880, five generations of the Brotte family have been making wines with passion and authenticity. The fruit for this wine comes from selected small wine producers in the Rhône Valley, all of whom have been partners of Maison Brotte for several decades. The fruit used is most Grenache which grows on well-exposed clay-limestone and sandy soils. To ensure that the soil can reach its full potential, the soil is cultivated in a sustainable way, with severe pruning in winter, green harvesting and leaf thinning to limit the yield. The grapes are harvested at good maturity. Vinification is of the traditional type: after a light crushing, vatting in lined concrete vats for 15 to 20 days at 28°-30° degrees. They carry out two daily pump-overs, unloading and stirring of the lees during alcoholic fermentation. Malolactic fermentation is followed by an 8 to 12-month ageing process in hundred-year-old oak barrels and concrete vats. Bottling takes place in the autumn and winter the year following the harvest.
