Get to know: Bodegas Palacio, Glorioso Crianza
Tasting Notes
This Rioja’s got a bright, full-on nose—think punchy blackberry, cherry and strawberry fruit lifted beautifully by a touch of toasty vanilla from its French oak ageing. It’s elegant but with real character, bringing a fresh vibrancy to the glass. The ripe fruit flavours bring a lively energy that dances across the palate, rounding off with a long, silky finish and a gorgeously smooth, velvety feel. A cracking wine that shows just what Rioja can do.
Try this with lamb chops.
Kate Says
"Rioja is the oldest and most popular wine region in Spain. The traditional Crianza, aged in oak for at least 12 months, is a great place to discover this style. The Glorioso stands out with it's vibrant fruit. I'd enjoy this with some grilled lamb chops."
Producer Info
Glorioso is a historic range from the Entrecanales family started in 1917. Today it sits alongside the Cosme Palacio wines as part of this small to medium sized estate in Rioja Alavesa.
The winery have been on a course of serious investment in sustainability: solar powered winery, capture and reuse of rainwater, minimal sprays (only when needed, and Rioja is not an easy place to avoid disease and rot etc), investing in their communities and their workforce.
The wines are showing seriously well against similarly priced Riojas, superbly crafted by Almudena Alberca MW, first female Spanish MW, director of winemaking.
