Diamantakis, Diamantopetra White 2024

Get to know: Diamantakis, Diamantopetra White 2024

A beautifully expressive Greek white wine from the sun-drenched slopes of Crete.

Tasting Note

Diamantopetra White is an elegant blend of Vidiano and Assyrtiko that balances vibrant orchard fruit with subtle oak complexity. Crafted by the Diamantakis family with skillful precision, it captures both the richness of Vidiano and the zesty freshness of Assyrtiko. Pale yellow in colour, this wine opens with aromas of pineapple, apricot and chamomile, delicately layered with vanilla, toasted nuts and a gentle oak spice. On the palate, it is full-bodied yet lifted, showing ripe stone fruit flavours, crisp acidity and excellent balance. The long finish leaves elegant hints of apricot and vanilla. A fine example of modern Cretan winemaking at its best

Top food pairings:

  • Grilled sea bass with lemon and herbs
  • Smoked yellow cheeses from Crete
  • Seafood pasta with garlic and olive oil
Kate Says

“This is a white that reveals its coastal influences – rich and textured, but with a refreshing streak of acidity. I’d happily pour it with a seafood feast or a plate of local cheese.”

Producer Info

Diamantakis Winery, founded in 2007 by the Diamantakis family, is a rising star of Cretan winemaking. Based in the mountainous village of Kato Asites near Heraklion, the estate farms just 15 hectares of vines at altitudes up to 670m, where cooling Aegean breezes help preserve freshness. Specialising in indigenous grapes like Vidiano and Assyrtiko, the winery has earned international acclaim, with medals from Decanter and Challenge International du Vin, for its precise, expressive wines that showcase Crete’s unique terroir.

How it’s made:

  • Varieties: 50% Vidiano, 50% Assyrtiko
  • Harvested between mid-August and mid-September to balance ripeness and freshness
  • Separate vinification for each grape in stainless steel
  • Alcoholic fermentation completed in oak barrels at 15–17°C
  • Matured on fine lees with bâtonnage for 3 months in 80% French and 20% American oak (half new)

Good to know:

  • Region: Crete, Greece
  • Style: White, full-bodied
  • Closure: Cork
  • Vegan: Yes
  • ABV: 14%
  • Vintage: 2024

Why we love it:

This Cretan white wine perfectly balances Vidiano’s rich stone-fruit character with Assyrtiko’s bright acidity, framed by subtle oak. It’s layered, food-friendly, and shows just how exciting Greek whites can be – whether enjoyed now or aged for added complexity.
