Calusari, Pinot Grigio 2024

Get to know: Calusari Pinot Grigio Feteasca Alba, Viile Timisului 2025

A vibrant, fruit-forward Romanian white wine from the historic vineyards of Viile Timisului in western Romania.

Tasting Note

This latest vinatge of Calusari Pinot Grigio comes blended with a higher proportion of Feteasca Alba in a refreshing, modern blend that delivers plenty of character with an easy-going charm. Pale straw in colour with bright aromas of grapefruit, ripe peach, green apple and a hint of melon. On the palate, this blend is light and lithe, packed with juicy orchard fruit and lifted by a citrusy acidity that keeps everything crisp and clean. There’s no oak to mask the fruit, just pure, fresh flavours and a gently mouthwatering finish. It’s a brilliant example of contemporary Romanian wine that over-delivers for the price.

Top food pairings:

  • Grilled chicken with lemon and thyme
  • Pan-fried white fish with a squeeze of citrus
  • Light seafood dishes such as prawns or calamari
Kate Says

"This easy-drinking Pinot Grigio is a little gem of a wine. From a very modern, forward-thinking winery in Romania, it’s fresh, fun, and perfect for midweek evenings, picnics, or relaxed gatherings."

Producer Info

Cramele Recas began life in 1988, when three families invested in 650 hectares of neglected Romanian vineyards and a former state-owned winery. Today, under the guidance of Philip Cox and Elvira Cox, the estate has become the most successful winery in Romania, recognised globally for its dynamic, quality-driven approach. Combining old vines with new plantings and state-of-the-art facilities, they produce a wide range of wines – from everyday favourites to natural and orange styles – always with a focus on value and consistency in the heart of the Viile Timisului region.

How it’s made:

  • Varieties: 51% Pinot Grigio, 49% Feteasca Alba
  • Harvested early in the morning to preserve freshness and prevent unwanted colour extraction
  • Lightly crushed and cooled to 8°C before gentle vacuum pressing
  • Fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks for around three weeks at 10°C
  • Kept on fine lees until bottling for added texture and subtle complexity

Good to know:

  • Region: Viile Timisului, Romania
  • Style: White, still, light-bodied
  • Closure: Screw cap
  • Vegan: Yes
  • ABV: 12%
  • Vintage: 2025

Why we love it:

This Romanian white wine blends the freshness of Pinot Grigio with the gentle aromatics of Feteasca Alba, creating a bright, versatile bottle that works just as well with food as it does on its own. It’s modern Romanian wine at its most drinkable – crisp, fruity and reliably good value.
