Get to know: Philippe Livera Domaine des Tilleuls, Gevrey-Chambertin "Clos Village" 2020
Tasting Note
Rich, structured, and packed with character, this Gevrey-Chambertin is a classic expression of Burgundy’s famed terroir. Deeply concentrated with dark cherry, blackberry, and subtle earthy notes, it’s layered with spice, minerality, and a touch of well-integrated oak. The tannins are firm yet refined, balanced by bright acidity and a long, complex finish. Drinking beautifully with decanting but will age gracefully for years to come.
Try this with Roasted duck breast or quail with a cherry or berry reduction sauce, truffle pasta or Gruyère or Brie cheese.
Kate Says
"If you love serious Burgundy, this is a must-try. It’s got power and elegance in equal measure, with layers of dark fruit, spice, and that signature Gevrey-Chambertin depth. Right now, it’s structured and brooding, but give it time in the glass—or the cellar—and it’ll reward you with incredible complexity. Definitely one for a special occasion."
Producer Info
Domaine Philippe Livera, formerly Domaine des Tilleuls, has been making wine in Gevrey-Chambertin since 1920. When Damien Livera took over in 2007, he elevated the estate’s reputation through meticulous vineyard care, low-intervention winemaking, and a focus on purity and terroir. The "Clos Village" comes from old vines planted as far back as 1920, sitting on the prized slopes below Clos St Jacques. Aged in 40% new oak, it’s a wine that overdelivers for its village classification, offering the structure and depth of a top-tier Burgundy.
