Tasting Note

Bright, juicy, and effortlessly drinkable, this organic Barbera from Piedmont is packed with vibrant sour cherry, blackcurrant, and blackberry flavours, with floral hints of rose and a touch of earthy geranium. It’s fresh, smooth, and well-balanced, with lively acidity that keeps it light on its feet while still delivering a satisfying depth of fruit. The finish lingers with a subtle savoury edge, making it incredibly moreish.

Try this with spaghetti puttanesca, a roasted aubergine and walnut bake or simply with a wedge of Taleggio cheese.

Tenuta del Melo is part of the Rossi Cairo family’s sustainable winemaking project, based in the rolling hills of Gavi, Piedmont. They take a low-intervention approach, farming their 20 hectares organically and biodynamically. No synthetic chemicals here—just natural compost, herbal preparations, and healthy vineyard soils that let the grapes shine.

For their Barbera Piemonte DOC, grapes are hand-harvested in late September, then fermented using natural yeasts in stainless steel tanks. Gentle daily pump-overs extract colour and aroma without overworking the wine. After fermentation, it rests on fine lees for several months to enhance texture and depth before bottling. With no fining or animal-based additives, it’s completely vegan-friendly, keeping things pure, honest, and true to the land.
