Aniello 006 Merlot 2024

Get to know: Aniello 006 Merlot 2024

A pure, fruit-led Argentine red wine from the windswept vineyards of Patagonia, Argentina.

Tasting Note

Aniello 006 Merlot 2024 is an elegant yet expressive red that shows just how good Merlot from Patagonia can be. Attractive ruby red in colour, it opens with inviting aromas of blueberries, ripe plums, blackcurrants, and a subtle mineral edge that speaks clearly of its cool-climate origins. On the palate, this Patagonian Merlot is medium-bodied with a rich, supple texture, delivering layers of dark fruit framed by ripe, velvety tannins and gently balancing acidity. The finish is smooth, fresh, and quietly savoury, leaving a sense of clarity and poise. This is a beautifully judged Argentine Merlot that combines purity, drinkability, and real varietal character.

Top food pairings:

  • Roast lamb with rosemary and garlic
  • Grilled pork chops or pork tenderloin
  • Mushroom risotto or lentil-based dishes
Kate Says

"This is Merlot behaving itself in the best possible way – silky, fruit-forward, and quietly confident. A great bottle to open when you want bold flavour without heaviness."

Producer Info

Aniello is a leading light in modern Patagonian winemaking, based in Mainqué in the Upper Río Negro Valley. Working exclusively with fruit from their own vineyards, the team focuses on expressing the region’s cool climate, long growing season, and distinctive alluvial soils. The result is a range of wines prized for their purity, balance, and clear sense of place.

How it’s made:

  • Varieties: 100% Merlot
  • Manually harvested in small bins at optimal ripeness
  • Cold maceration for three days to build aroma and colour
  • Slow, cool fermentation in small concrete tanks using indigenous and selected yeasts
  • Malolactic fermentation in tank, with 30% oak-aged for 12 months in used French barrels

Good to know:

  • Region: Upper Río Negro Valley, Patagonia, Argentina
  • Style: Red, still, medium-bodied
  • Closure: Cork
  • Vegan: Yes
  • ABV: 13.5%
  • Vintage: 2024

Why we love it:

This Patagonian Merlot is all about purity, texture, and balance. It’s a brilliant example of Argentine red wine from a cooler climate, offering generous dark fruit, silky tannins, and impressive finesse – an ideal introduction to the familar Merlot grape from the less familar Patagonia.
