Domaine Gayda, En Passant White 2023

Get to know: Domaine Gayda, En Passant White

From the inventive team at Domaine Gayda, En Passant Blanc is a vibrant and expressive white wine inspired by Iggy Pop’s iconic anthem “The Passenger”.

Tasting Note

Inspired by The Passenger, the pop-rock anthem by the iconic Iggy Pop, this wine expresses Domaine Gayda's nomadic spirit. Travelling, with rucksack on their back, they are guided by the search for unusual terroirs, pausing for a moment to reflect on the creation of these unique blends… just passing through…

On the nose, you’ll notice lovely hints of apricot, Granny Smith apple, zesty lime, and fresh almonds, all typical of the Rolle (aka vermentino) and Viognier grape blend. On the palate, it’s full-bodied and generous, with a nice balance of acidity and a gentle bitterness at the end. There’s also a hint of minerality that adds a bit of intrigue to the finish. Flavours of apricot pear, acacia flowers, almonds, and white peach come together beautifully, giving you a refined and well-balanced tasting experience.

Top food pairings:

  • Grilled sea bass with lemon and fennel
  • Vietnamese rice paper rolls with tofu or prawns
  • Soft cheeses like Brie or Saint-Marcellin
Kate Says

"This is a proper sunshine wine. Fresh, bright, and full of Mediterranean character, it’s the kind of bottle you’ll want to open with a plate of seafood or just sip in the garden on a warm evening. A great choice if you love a white with both elegance and energy."

Producer Info

Domaine Gayda, nestled in Brugairolles near Carcassonne, is distinguished by a rich history and a philosophy focused on integrity and quality. Founded in 1749 as a coaching inn the farm buildings were gradually transformed into luxury accommodation, marking the beginning of a remarkable transformation. In 2004, under the enlightened leadership of owners Tim Ford and Anthony Record, in partnership with talented winemaker Vincent Chansault, the estate took a new turn by modernizing significantly.

How it’s made:

  • Grapes grown on limestone plateaus in the Minervois
  • Whole bunches pressed slowly for maximum aroma
  • Very light settling and no added sulphur during fermentation
  • Low temperature fermentation to retain freshness
  • Rolle aged in stainless steel; Viognier split between concrete egg and stainless steel
  • Aged on fine lees to build texture and complexity

Good to know:

  • Region: Pays d’Oc IGP, France
  • Grapes: 60% Rolle (Vermentino), 40% Viognier
  • Vintage: 2024
  • ABV: 13.5%
  • Style: Dry, aromatic white with a mineral finish

  • Serve at: 8–10°C

Why we love it:

It’s a wine that rewards curiosity – bright and elegant on the surface, but with layers of flavour that keep you coming back for more.
