Augustiner Hell is Bavarian lager at its best – mellow, smooth, and outrageously drinkable. It pours a bright straw gold with a creamy white head and gives off gentle aromas of fresh bread, floral hops, and a touch of honey. On the palate, it’s soft and rounded – think lightly sweet malt, subtle grassy bitterness, and a clean, crisp finish that keeps you coming back for more. Balanced to perfection, it’s a true crowd-pleaser.
Try this with vegan schnitzel and tangy sauerkraut, roast chicken, pretzels with mustard, or classic fish and chips.
"This is hands down one of the smoothest lagers out there. It’s got that ‘first pint of the day in the sunshine’ vibe – refreshing, unfussy, but with just enough malt sweetness and herbal hop zip to make it memorable. I always keep a few of these in the fridge."
Augustiner is Munich’s oldest independent brewery, founded way back in 1328 by monks – and they’ve been perfecting the art of lager ever since. Unlike most of the big names, they’ve resisted mass production and stayed focused on tradition and quality. Their beers are still brewed in the heart of Munich, and locals hold them in legendary regard – this is the stuff you’ll see in biergartens across the city.
The Lagerbier Hell is a standout. Brewed according to the Reinheitsgebot purity law, it uses just water, malt, hops and yeast – no tricks, no shortcuts. The beer is fermented slowly and lagered for weeks, giving it that clean, mellow character. It’s all about balance: soft, lightly sweet malt meets gentle noble hops for a finish that’s crisp but never harsh. Classic, authentic, and ridiculously smooth.
