Get to know: Harrow & Hope Brut Reserve No 7

Tasting Note

No 7 is based on the 2018 vintage, a watershed year that gave Harrow & Hope a stunning summer and provided some top quality fruit. It has delivered a wine showing a juicy, soft and friendly structure that has a lovely purity that you only seem to get when the fruit is properly ripe. There's plenty of green apple and lemony citrus fruit, mingling with some apple pie and toasty brioche notes. The palate is precise and focused with a subtle minerality and clean acidity leading to a vibrant, dry finish. With the previous No 6 picking up trophies for best English NV sparkling at Wine GB awards 2022 and Best Value English Sparkling Wine in Tom Hewson’s definitive English Wine Report 2022, this wine had a lot to live up to, but impresses with every mouthful.

Try this as an aperitif or with shellfish.

Kate Says

"Here we have a great English Sparkling wine that's worth celebrating. We love this winery. Based down in Marlow, it's run by a husband and wife team. Their Brut Reserve is great quality. Pure, fresh and elegant, it's an absolute belter."

Producer Info

Over half a million years, their part of the Chiltern Hills has been shaped by the retreating Thames, leaving behind an environment ideal for creating world-class sparkling wine. Alas, the same flint rocks that make their single vineyard estate a dream for Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, also make it a nightmare to work and cultivate – as two broken harrows testify. But then nothing worth treasuring ever came easy.

Grown, picked and expertly blended by the same team on the same site, each glass of Harrow & Hope is a tribute to traditional method viticulture and winemaking, to the unique characteristics of Marlow and to the spirit of adventure.

Once again this wine comes from plots from every part of the vineyard and so is the best representation of the whole site. Combining this with 20% reserve wines you really start to see the complexity of the different soil types and how they show up in all the wines.
