Domaine de la Croix Senaillet, Saint-Veran en Pommards 2022

Get to know: Domaine de la Croix Senaillet, Saint-Veran en Pommards

Tasting Note

On the nose there's an immediately appealing aroma of citrus, ripe golden apple and apricot with good intensity and delicate toasted notes from the brief oak ageing. It is generous on the palate, and there's a layered texture offering weight to the concentrated fruit, leading to a flavoursome, fresh finish with lingering minerality.

Try this with a creamy prawn pasta, vegetable risotto or goats cheese Bleu de Bresse, Comté, Beaufort, and Gruyère.

Kate Says

"Wonderfully fresh and complex Chardonnay from one of our favourite Burgundian appellations. The wines are gorgeously, crisp, fresh, pure, crystalline, minerally, concentrated and intensely flavoured, and are highly recommended. I'd enjoy this with a grilled mackeral."

Producer Info

Based just outside the village of Davayé, Richard and Stéphane Martin took over from their father in the early 1990s. What was a 6.5-hectare domaine has now grown to some 25 hectares, spread over 52 individual parcels – nearly all surrounding their modern winery in the commune of Davayé. Since 2006, they have been totally organic and are now certified as such. The hot, dry 2022 vintage demanded adaptability, yet yielded remarkably fresh, balanced fruit. Organically grown Chardonnay was hand-harvested at peak ripeness, gently pressed, and slowly fermented in tank and oak, then aged 10 months on fine lees for finesse.
