Chateau Picoron, Le Bon Nobel 2016

Get to know: Chateau Picoron, Le Bon Nobel

Tasting Note

Le Bon Nobel is a delicious, modern red wine from the Bordeaux region of France, made from a single plot of Merlot. It has a rich and complex aroma with notes of blackberry, plum, hazelnut and cedar oak. The taste is smooth and balanced, with a long and satisfying finish. This opens up nicely with a bit of aeration so decanting is recommended.

It pairs well with roast beef.

Kate Says

"This is a very eye-catching wine from a dynamic winery. It uses only a single-plot of Merlot grapes from to create a generously flavoured wine that has mellowed with time into something rather delicious. Ideal for sharing over dinner with friends."

Producer Info

At Château Picoron, they explore the potential of the great grape of Merlot which they discovered is named after the Merle blackbird. The Australian-owned organic vineyard adopted this bird as the mascot, and produce each wine from of single plot grapes in their 4.5ha vineyard. An honest expression of their terroir on the famous St Emilion clay & limestone ridge, they farm sustainably using organic practices and minimal intervention.

Their wines are made following the Ouvipo philosophy (Ouvroir de Vins Potentiels). Made honoring natural and self-imposed constraints. The constraints of their region, Bordeaux, its varietals and the changing climate are the catalyst for their creation. Château Picoron’s goal is to create a new and inclusive image for Bordeaux by shaking the conformity and snobbery of the region; making wines more fun, while honouring their legacy. Driven by a fundamental belief in diversity, and the agency of each winery to define the evolution and future of this region, Château Picoron sought to kick start something new. To revitalise a region, and to honour its history. To, in their own words, cultivate a “New Bordeaux.”

Le Bon Nobel is barrel fermented and matured in French oak for 20 months. Limited to 5600 bottles. Individually numbered.
