Chateau Argadens Rouge Bordeaux Superieur 2019 (37.5cl)

Get to know: Chateau Argadens Rouge Bordeaux Superieur 2019 (37.5cl)

Tasting Note

Half the size, but full of classic Bordeaux charm.

This 2019 Bordeaux Supérieur from Château Argadens punches well above its price tag, even in this convenient 37.5cl half bottle. It’s a traditional Merlot-dominant blend with that unmistakable Bordeaux elegance – think ripe blackberries and cassis layered with cedar, graphite and a touch of spice. The tannins are silky, the structure refined, and there’s just the right amount of oak to add polish without overpowering the fruit.

Top food pairings:

  • Slow-braised beef or mushroom bourguignon
  • Grilled aubergine with tomato and lentils (vegan-friendly)
  • Hard cheeses like Pecorino or vintage Gouda

When to drink it: A brilliant midweek bottle for two, or perfect with a steak and chips at home. Enjoy now or hold for another 2–4 years.

Kate Says

“This is a proper little gem – classic claret in a half bottle, with all the polish and poise you’d expect from Bordeaux. It’s smooth, stylish and so easy to enjoy. I love this size when I don’t want to open a full bottle midweek. It’s great with dinner or just a good book and a cheese board.”

Producer Info

Château Argadens is owned by the Sichel family – a respected Bordeaux name since 1883 and co-owners of Château Palmer in Margaux. They purchased the neglected estate in 2002 and set about transforming it with major investments in vineyard replanting, a new winery, and sustainable farming practices.

Located in Saint-André-du-Bois, southeast of Bordeaux, Château Argadens benefits from limestone-rich soils and excellent vineyard exposure. Their aim is to create a modern expression of Bordeaux Supérieur – approachable, fruit-driven, and made with real care.

How it’s made:

  • A blend of Merlot (63%), Cabernet Sauvignon (32%) and Cabernet Franc (5%)
  • Grapes are picked at optimum ripeness and sorted for quality
  • Fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel for freshness
  • Aged for 12 months in French oak barrels, one-third of which are new, to add structure and spice

The result? A Bordeaux with freshness, finesse and staying power – ideal for traditionalists and modern wine drinkers alike.
