Marselan is the star in this super Southern French red. The grape is a cross between Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache and delivers juicy, sweetly ripe fruit in abundance. Dark and intense ruby in the glass. The nose is perfectly spiced with hints of black pepper and violet with aromas of blackberry and cassis. Rich and dense with concentrated flavours on the palate with a soft mouth feel, followed by a long and juicy finish with subtle tannins.
Try this with a rustic pasta dish or a beef stew.

Making the most of the character of Southern French varietals and using modern winemaking techniques, Xavier Roger produces a diverse portfolio of wines that are a superb example of the quality that is being produced in the South of France at affordable prices. The label illustration is by an artist based in Carcassonne – Sylvain Rouaud. It pays tribute to leading 'Ampleographer' (the science of identifying, naming and classifying vines and grape varieties) Paul Truel, who created the Marselan grape in 1961.
The grapes are harvested when reaching the perfect level of ripeness. All the berries are destemmed to macerate at 5°C in an inert atmosphere to avoid oxidation and extract the subtle aromas and fine tannins. The wine is aged for 6 months in stainless steel tanks, on its fine lees. Marselan is a rare and precious Mediterranean varietal, that express its outstanding potential on sun drenched and low-yielded terroirs, with rough soils made of gravel and pebbles.
