False Bay, 'Whole Bunch' Cinsault Mourvedre Rose 2024

Get to know: False Bay Whole Bunch Cinsault Mourvèdre Rosé 2024

A delightfully expressive South African rosé from the cool coastal vineyards of the Western Cape.

Tasting Note

False Bay Whole Bunch Cinsault Mourvèdre Rose wine combines bright summer fruits with a subtle savoury edge. Pale pink in colour with aromas of wild strawberry, red cherry, rosehip, and a hint of Mediterranean herbs. On the palate, it’s dry, crisp, and textural with flavours of ripe summer berries and a touch of savoury spice from the Mourvèdre. It finishes clean and refreshing with a gentle, lingering grip from the whole-bunch pressing.

Top food pairings:

  • Roast Mediterranean vegetables with hummus
  • Grilled halloumi flatbreads or spiced chicken skewers
  • Crumbly goat’s cheese or creamy Brie-style vegan alternatives
Kate Says

"I love the wines of False Bay – such great quality for the price. This rosé, made from delicately pressed whole bunches, is pale and elegant yet full of summer berries and a subtle savoury lift. Perfect for food or sipping on its own."

Producer Info

False Bay Vineyards is the laid-back, sustainably-focused sibling of Waterkloof Estate, based on the cool coastal slopes of South Africa’s Western Cape. The vineyards are farmed with minimal intervention, and cellarmaster Nadia Langenegger allows the natural character of the Cinsault and Mourvèdre grapes to shine. Whole-bunch fermentation imparts gentle tannins and a delicate spice, reflecting the unique terroir of the Coastal Region.

How it’s made:

  • Varieties: Cinsault 85%, Mourvèdre 15%
  • Hand-harvested from low-yielding bush vines to preserve freshness and acidity
  • Whole-bunch basket pressed for purity of juice
  • Spontaneous fermentation with wild yeasts in stainless steel and wooden foudre
  • Left on lees for a minimum of three months before bottling; minimal sulphur; vegan-friendly

Good to know:

  • Region: Coastal Region, Western Cape, South Africa
  • Style: Rosé, still, dry
  • Closure: Screwcap
  • Vegan: Yes
  • ABV: 13%
  • Vintage: 2024

Why we love it:

This South African rosé is a perfect summer companion, offering vibrant red berry flavours, crisp acidity, and a delicate savoury twist. Its textural complexity and food-friendly nature make it ideal with Mediterranean dishes, light meats, or simply enjoyed chilled on a sunny afternoon.
