Solara Natural Red 2023

Get to know: Solara Natural Red

Tasting Note

Solara Natural Red wine is a juicy, gently wild red wine from Romania’s Cramele Recaș – a forward-thinking winery known for making seriously good, great-value bottles. Unfiltered, unfined and made with minimal intervention, it’s bursting with vibrant fruit, earthy charm and a touch of natural funk.

This is a blend of organically grown Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, fermented with native yeasts and bottled unfiltered with no additives. Expect black cherry, wild plum, a dash of spice and a rustic twist of bramble and forest floor. It’s light on its feet, with soft tannins and a fresh, slightly crunchy finish.

A cracking entry point into the world of natural wine – approachable, full of flavour, and totally unpretentious.

Top food pairings:

  • Aubergine parmigiana or mushroom ragu (vegan-friendly)
  • Chargrilled lamb or smoky BBQ skewers
  • Cheese: Taleggio or aged Manchego

A fridge-chilled red for warm evenings and casual dinners.

Kate Says

"If you're curious about natural wine but not quite ready for the wild stuff, this is a brilliant place to start. It’s fresh, fruity, and super drinkable – no funky edges, just smooth, juicy red with a bit of character. Pop it in the fridge for 20 minutes and you’ve got an easygoing crowd-pleaser that still ticks the natural wine box."

Producer Info

The Cramele Recas Estate, owned by Englishman, Philip Cox and his Romanian wife Elvira, have put in a huge amount of work into transforming their slice of grape growing history into a contemporary winemaking haven.

For Solara Natural Red wine, they keep things as low-intervention as possible. The grapes (76% Merlot, 24% Cabernet Sauvignon) are gently destemmed and macerated for five days on the skins, which brings out the colour and soft tannins without overdoing it. Fermentation and malolactic conversion happen naturally in stainless steel, and the wine is stabilised outside during the Romanian winter – no additives, no filtering, no fuss. That hands-off approach gives the wine its pure, fruit-driven character and keeps it vibrant and full of life. A proper introduction to natural wine – bright, honest and straight-talking.
