Get to know: Château Oumsiyat ‘Cuvée Membliarus’ Assyrtiko 2024
Bright, citrussy and floral, it’s a seriously refreshing white.
Tasting Note
This is Assyrtiko like you’ve never tasted it – grown high in Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley where Mediterranean freshness meets mountain minerality. Subtle white peach and lemon blossom on the nose lead to a vibrant palate full of citrus zest, gentle spice and a flinty mineral edge. Crisp, clean and mouthwatering with a lovely saline lift on the finish.
Top food pairings:
- Grilled prawns with lemon and garlic
- Halloumi and courgette skewers with herbs
- Goat’s cheese tart
Kate Says
"Assyrtiko might be best known from Greece, but this Lebanese version is a revelation – super fresh and mineral with a lovely citrus drive. A brilliant sunshine wine, especially with seafood or mezze-style plates."
Producer Info
Château Oumsiyat is a family-run winery in Lebanon’s historic Bekaa Valley. Winemaker Joseph Bou Sleiman combines generations of local know-how with modern techniques to create wines that feel both rooted and contemporary. Cuvée Membliarus takes its name from a Phoenician governor of Santorini – a nod to the Greek origins of the Assyrtiko grape and its ancient Mediterranean ties. The family’s 78-hectare estate sits over 1,000 metres above sea level, where cool nights and warm days shape wines with vibrancy, balance and finesse.
How it’s made:
- 95% Assyrtiko, 5% Sauvignon Blanc
- Grown at 1,000m altitude on calcareous clay soils
- Manually harvested at optimum ripeness
- Cool fermented in stainless steel at 14–16°C
- No malolactic conversion for maximum freshness
