Get to know: B de Biac 2016
A refined Bordeaux red wine from the historic right bank vineyards overlooking the Garonne River.
Tasting Note
B de Biac 2016 is an elegant yet approachable Bordeaux blend that balances ripe fruit with freshness and polish. Deep ruby in colour, it opens with complex aromas of black cherry, ripe plum, blackberry and a subtle hint of cedar and graphite, classic of Merlot-led Bordeaux. On the palate, it’s medium- to full-bodied with a rich core of dark fruit, supple, well-integrated tannins and a generous mid-palate without any heaviness. The finish is smooth, fresh and quietly persistent, making this a polished Bordeaux red that’s drinking beautifully now while still holding structure.
Top food pairings:
- Roast lamb with rosemary and garlic
- Beef bourguignon or slow-cooked beef brisket
- Mature hard cheeses such as Comté or aged Cheddar
Kate Says
"This is Bordeaux behaving itself – all the depth and structure you want, but with a softness that makes it perfect for a relaxed dinner rather than a grand occasion. Properly satisfying."
Producer Info
Château Biac is a historic Bordeaux estate with roots stretching back to Roman times, dramatically positioned above a sweeping meander of the Garonne River near Langoiran. Now owned by a Lebanese family who describe themselves as ‘accidental winemakers’, the estate has been lovingly restored with a clear aim: to revive Biac’s long-standing reputation for finesse, balance and excellence. The unique terroir, shaped by the river and varied soils of clay, chalk and gravel, brings both richness and freshness to their wines.
How it’s made:
- Varieties: 94% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, 1% Cabernet Sauvignon
- Harvested parcel by parcel in October 2016 to capture optimal ripeness and balance
- Grapes grown on a mix of clay, chalk and gravel soils for complexity and structure
- Traditional fermentation to gently extract colour, flavour and fine tannins
- Aged for 16 months in oak barrels to add depth, texture and harmony
