Bodegas Palacio, Glorioso Gran Reserva 2017

Get to know: Glorioso Gran Reserva

A superbly crafted Rioja red wine from the high vineyards of Rioja Alavesa, Spain.

Tasting Note

Glorioso Gran Reserva is a classic Tempranillo that embodies the elegance of traditional Rioja. Deep ruby in colour, it opens with rich aromas of blueberry, wild red berries, and notes of pipe tobacco, menthol, and cedar from 26 months in French oak. On the palate, it’s medium-bodied and beautifully balanced, with polished tannins, layers of ripe fruit, and a distinctive mineral edge that lingers on the finish. A wine of real depth and finesse, showing why Rioja Gran Reserva remains one of Spain’s most celebrated styles.

Top food pairings:

  • Roast lamb with rosemary and garlic
  • Slow-cooked game dishes
  • A board of mature Manchego or aged cheddar
Kate Says

"Gran Reserva Rioja is all about depth and elegance, with layers of complex flavors from extended aging. Glorioso Gran Reserva is a well crafted example - perfect for a special dinner with roast lamb or mature cheeses. Ideal for celebrations and it makes a great gift too."

Producer Info

Bodegas Palacio has been crafting wines in Rioja Alavesa since 1917, part of the historic Entrecanales family estate. Today, the winery combines heritage with modern sustainability – running on 100% renewable energy, capturing rainwater, and minimising vineyard treatments. Nestled near the Sierra Cantabria mountains, their high-altitude vineyards produce Tempranillo grapes with freshness, intensity, and finesse. Under the direction of Almudena Alberca MW, Spain’s first female Master of Wine, Glorioso continues to shine as a benchmark for the region.

How it’s made:

  • Varieties: 100% Tempranillo
  • Grapes selected from old vines in the highest parts of Rioja Alavesa
  • Traditional winemaking with gentle handling to preserve fruit purity
  • Temperature-controlled fermentation for balance and elegance
  • Aged 26 months in French oak, followed by 36 months’ bottle ageing before release
