Arribas, Saroto Branco 2021

Get to know: Arribas, Saroto Branco

Tasting Note

An old-vine field blend containing the likes of Verdelho, Malvasia, Posto Branco, and Bastardo Branco, amongst others. Barrel fermented for 7 months and very hands-off winemaking. A rich and textural wine full of complexity and nuance. There are aromas and flavours of mango, peach, citrus, honey, yeasty bread-like notes and light mineralilty. Natural acidity keeps the balance through the palate. A brilliantly food friendly wine.

Try this with seafood salads.

Kate Says

"Arribas make wine as pure as possible from their field blends of old vine grapes. Their Saroto branco is very tasty and refreshing and the subtly layered texture just lifts into something special. It's perfect to pair with fish tacos."

Producer Info

Arribas Wine Company was founded in 2017, in Bemposta, Mogadouro. They aim to produce authentic wines, based in regional varieties, from old vineyards and using traditional techniques, as well as a degree of innovation. To achieve this they strive to farm their vineyards as sustainably and respectfully as possible, and to make wines in a minimalistic way. Inspired by their peers and family roots this is a hands-on “garagista” winery where the level of intervention in winemaking matches that of the viticulture. These are wines on the edge, and captivating.

The 2021 growing season was nearly a perfect one as they witnessed very moderate conditions during maturation. In fact, because summer wasn't hot and nights were unusually cold, maturation was slow and gradual contributing for excellent acidity in the wines. The grapes used to make Saroto White 2021 were hand harvested into 20 Kg cases on September 8th and were foot trodden in a traditional lagar totaling three days of skin maceration. After this period, the grapes were pressed and the juice was racked into used French oak barrels. Kept in barrel over lees for 7 months, the juice fermented naturally with indigenous yeast and without temperature control (wild fermentation) finishing both alcoholic and malolactic fermentations.
