Isle of Raasay, Dun Cana Sherry Quarter Cask Single Malt Release (70cl, 52%)

Get to know: Isle of Raasay, Dun Cana Quarter Cask Release (70cl, 52%)

Tasting Note

Introducing Dùn Cana – Sherry Quarter Cask Release, a new whisky encompassing the prowess of Raasay’s mighty volcanic mountain. 66 million years in the making, we’re delighted to introduce this new release into our single malt range.

Peated and unpeated spirit matured first in the strong foundations of their American rye casks with a second maturation in Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry quarter casks, this whisky exudes peppery spice, dried sultanas and hints of vanilla with a finish of lingering salty chocolate and a light hint of aromatic wood smoke.

‘Dùn’ is Gaelic for an elevated stronghold. The word has been commonly adopted across Scotland in place names such as ‘Dùn’dee, ‘Dùn’keld, ‘Dùn’fermline and ‘Dùn’add in Argyll. Island legend holds that ‘Cana’ was an island warrior who took to the highest point on Raasay for his stronghold and lookout. The island peak named after Cana became ‘Dùn Cana’ – pronounced ‘Doon Caa-nuh’.
