Chateau Grange Cochard, Morgon Les Charmes 2020

Get to know: Chateau Grange Cochard, Morgon Les Charmes 2020

Tasting Note

A lovely example of Cru Beaujolais from Morgon. This has more concentration than your average Beaujolais. There's such a pure aroma of raspberry and black cherries given added complexity with hints of espresso, and earthy, leafy notes. On the palate it is ripe with wonderfully expressive fruit with more cherry meeting strawberry and blueberry flavours. There's a fresh acidity and some grippy tannins to finish and some richness from oak ageing. This is vibrant and precise. Let it open up in a decanter before serving to get the most out of it or cellar it for up to 5 years.

Try this with a bavette steak and frites.

Kate Says

"The wines of Morgon are weightier than the typical Beaujolais and the Les Charmes is where the some of the best wines are made. This is a serious expression of the Gamay grape that would suit those who like Pinot Noir and pairs brilliantly with food. I'd have it with a seared duck breast in a fruity sauce."

Producer Info

Château Grange Cochard is a family estate whose focus is on respect of the terroir and the environment.

They are currently in the process of conversion to organic farming to produce natural and authentic red wines that highlight the potential of some of the best vines in the region.

Their vineyard of 9.5ha in the Morgon appellation is a place where small quantities of fine red wine are made by hand. They use exclusively grapes grown from their own vineyard, and from vine to bottle, everything is done on the estate.

This wine comes from 2 plots of very old (50+ years) vines of Gamay located on granitic and blue stones of the well-known lieu-dit Les Charmes. The fruit is harvested by hand. and fermented using raditional semi-carbonic maceration and careful extraction. Maturing in vat and cask. Non fining. Low sulfites.

38000 bottles produced.
