The 2016 Foundry Syrah comes from a single vineyard on the Atlantic coast. Fermented and aged in French oak barrels for around 15 months this is a bold, complex Syrah. Full of ripe plums, wild herbs, violet flowers and peppery spice. The tannins are firm but balanced with elegant acidity and a long, peppery finish.
The Foundry was formed on a shoestring budget back in 2001 with winemaker Chris Williams and his good friend James Reid decided they wanted to be involved in the new wave South African wine revolution. Focused on making wines which they themselves would enjoy these are terroir driven wines where Chris takes great care to not manipulate the fruit.
Would pair perfectly with braised beef in a rich gravy and homecooked chips.
