Stepp, Riesling 2016 [G7]
Gerd sources his Riesling from terraced vineyards where the partially Bundsandstein (colored sandstone) partially limestone soils give the wine a delicate but persistent minerality. Lime and spice aromas with an underlying white peach character. The palate is broad, fresh and pure with great intensity. Tropical flavours come through on the palate, combined with white flower and lime. The balance is exceptional and whilst it’s drinking well in its youth it will surely age for many years to come.
Winemaking in general is based on natural methods with only minimal intervention, handling and pumping. All the white varietal fruit is whole berry pressed and fermentation begins with a wild ferment, followed by an inoculation to ferment dry. The wine is left on fine lees until just before bottling.
