Mike and Claudia Etze spent 15 years searching for the perfect vineyard sites and in the year 2000 they purchased a plot of land in Waikari, where they've now been creating truly remarkable, world renowned wines for 20 years.
In 2017 Steve Smith and Brian Sheth realised their own dream of creating wine together and were honoured to take on the legacy of Pyramid Valley. Their philosophy remains very much holistic, using biodynamic practices in the vineyards and following natural principles in the winery, using indigenous yeasts, natural fining and minimal filtration. Their aim is to produce wines that truly reflect their place in the world.
Here the aroma is full of earthy, herbaceous notes with oregano, lavender and tobacco, the fruit is much darker with blackberries and blueberries. There's great weight and texture on the palate and the fruit comes to the forefront here. There's a salinity and mouth watering acidity relating to the limestone soils the vines are gown on. Earth Smoke perfectly marries the fruit with the earth and is Pinot Noir at its very best.
