The best of what PITA produces, this is a selection of the best parcels from their vineyards. Aged in a mix of new and used barriques and foudres. It's Rich and creamy when young with bags of concentration while also bright and juicy with citrus, ripe peach and brioche. This is all balanced with mouth watering acidity and a long finish. This wine ages beautifully as well. It becomes more mineral, more citric, and more complete with about 5 years in the cellar.
Try this with a herby roast chicken.
"Rueda is known for light dry whites, however the region's winemakers also produce some superb barrel-aged wines that show off the Verdejo grape's complexity and ability to age. Emilio Pita's La Canterra is as good as it gets, very much worth it. Treat yourself with this paired with chicken in almond sauce."
Bodegas Pita are an Organic, family run, single estate (all grapes are from their own vineyards) headed up by winemaker Emilio Pita.
Emilio is a young winemaker who began his training in Bordeaux, taking inspiration from the underrated whites of the region. Emilio has also picked up a 'thing-or-two' working at some big-name outfits in Australia and New Zealand too! He returned home to Rueda with a belief and evangelism for his Verdejo vines, armed with a strong belief that great whites are possible with Verdejo in Rueda
The La Canterra 100% Verdejo, hand harvested from their best vineyards. Fermented in 300 litre French oak barrels and limited to 3,000 bottles per year production. Eight months further ageing on lees in the French oak adds body and texture.
