Founded in 1720, Chateau Ducru-Beaucaillou in St Julien is one of the leading 'Super Seconds' and represents the quintessential style of St Julien, powerful, ripe and well balanced. La Croix de Beaucaillou is the Chateau's second wine, made with grapes from their own vineyards situated along the Grionde river, for this wine they use a little more Merlot than in their flagship wine making it a little more approachable in it's youth. It's aged for 12 months in a mixture of new and old French oak barrels, the 2009 is full of pure, succulent dark cherry fruit, dense and ripe, supple tannins and a silky, smooth finish. Is drinking well now but will continue to develop for 5+ years in cellar.
