Get to know: Domaine Remoriquet, Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Les Bousselots 2003
Tasting Note
A classic earthy and well-developed wine that has a lovely aroma of red cherries, blackberry, cedar, spices, truffle and oak. The palate has surprisingly ripe fruit, tobacco and gamey notes on the light-bodied palate. It is ready and delivering. Broad and evolved yet keeping the Remoriquet trademark style of low extraction, high acidity, very fine but crunchy tannins. A very complex sip that lingers well with some acidity still present and grippy tannin. This is drinking well now and should be enjoyed soon.
Try with game.
Kate Says
It's not often you get a chance to try a Burgundy that is already 20 years old, so grab this fantastic parcel while you can. 2003 was an excellent vintage, particularly in the Côte de Nuits, so the wines here have stood up to age well.
Producer Info
Gilles Remoriquet is not a winemaker who rests on his laurels, forever looking for ways to improve his wines. Most recently he has been to the Jura to see a specialist about selecting the right blend of manure and has bought a second sorting table which eliminates under-ripe berries by flotation. The attention to detail flows right the way through from his vineyards to the winery.
Aux Bousselots is a Premier Cru classified vineyard located at the bottom of the Côte D'Or slope where a southeasterly aspect ensure the vines receive the morning sunshine and ripen well in Burgundy's cool climate. The result is a well-balanced wine with ample acidity to support the rich fruit flavors, further softened by the rich soil.
