Get to know: Ceretto, Barolo 2013
Tasting Note
This is a classic Barolo from one of the most respected producers in Piedmont - light garnet in color with Barolo's quintessential aromas of roses, red cherries, strawberry, and hints of truffles, chocolate and crushed mint. Taut and energetic on the palate with savoury flavours of cedar, tobacco and spice held together with grippy tannins that will continue to soften with age. It ends with a long liquorice-tinged finish with a smoky and earthy savouriness.
It is very approachable now or will keep for up to 20 years. Decant for at least 2 hours before serving.
Pair this wine with grilled steaks and simple sides.
Kate Says
"This is true, benchmark Barolo from one of the most respected wineries in the region. It's saying something that this is only their entry-level wine, such is the high standard. A wine to slowly savour throughout an evening."
Producer Info
In the late 80s the Ceretto family found an old farmstead in the outskirts of Alba, and gradually transformed it into its main offices. This estate, known as Monsordo Bernardina became the main hub of the company. There are more than 30 hectares of vineyards that surround the farmstead, both traditional and international varieties, all grown under strong principles of environmental sustainability.
Cerretto believe that the tradition in Barolo of blending wine from grapes grown across the appellation is the key to showcasing the possibilities of the entire terroir in a single wine. This approach delivers a bold liquid, rich and energetic, which will show well in youth and have the ability to age gracefully.
This wine is aged 12 months in 300-litre used French oak, then 24 months in larger, Stockinger botti.
