Keknyelu is a native Hungarian grape variety that was reduced to a single hectare by the end of the communist era but is now starting to thrive again on the volcanic slopes of Mount Badacsony. With it's rich texture and great concentration it's a variety which produces fantastic ageworthy wines. Here there's lots of tropical mango and pineapple with juicy quince, a rich texture and a warm herbaceous finish.
The aim of Huba Szeremley when he founded the Pannonian Wine Guild was to respect local vine growing traditions and help produce grapes which reflect the microclimate and volcanic terroir of the Mount Badacsony region.
This will continue to age in the bottle over time but pairs beautifully with white fish, lemon sole or delicate crab would be perfect.
