Get to know: Hans Herzog Viognier 2021
Tasting Note
A bold yet elegant organic Viognier from Marlborough, this wine bursts with quince, apricot, and white peach, lifted by fragrant honeysuckle and Mediterranean herbs. The palate is rich and full-bodied, with layers of exotic fruit, invigorating minerality, and a lingering freshness. Despite its luxurious weight, it remains vibrant and structured, finishing with a delicate hint of salinity.
Try this with rich seafood dishes like salmon in a creamy sauce, ceviche, or spiced Asian cuisine
Kate Says
"A heady, textural white with serious presence. The Viognier’s signature perfume shines, but there’s a spine of minerality and freshness that keeps it poised and elegant."
Producer Info
Hans Herzog crafts small-batch, organic wines from his single vineyard in Marlborough. The 2021 vintage was exceptionally low-yielding, producing just 1,930 bottles of intensely aromatic and concentrated Viognier. The wine spent 22 months in 500L French oak puncheons, developing depth and silkiness through regular lees stirring. It was bottled unfined and only roughly filtered, preserving its natural complexity.
