Get to know: Marziano Abbona, Barolo La Pieve

Tasting Note

2017 was a hot and early ripening vintage and showed significant challenges to the winegrowers of Langa. Marziano Abbona's knowledge and skill overcame these challenges to produce an excellent wine. In the glass it has a nose of ripe fruit and delicate spice and liquorice that give a remarkable expressiveness, unique of this wine. On the palate the texture is soft and creamy. It invites you to enjoy it immediately, but there's also a lot of structure and richness that provide the potential for considerable aging.

Try this with a fillet steak.

Producer Info

The wines of Marziano Abbona tell stories: The work in the vineyards and the scruple for high quality; the joy of rediscovering, year after year, the wine and its complexity of flavors and aromas of the Langhe; and the curiosity for new discoveries and more subtle refinements.

Every wine by the Abbona winery expresses its uniqueness through the wonder of its intimate and personal character. Because every wine contains within it a story – but every story should be accompanied with the right wine.

Made from grapes cultivated in Monforte d'Alba, this Barolo has a wonderful elegance to its bouquet, good strength, and excellent alcohol. The grapes from which this Barolo is obtained give great structure, aromatic finesse, and an average alcohol percentage of 15%. Just a bit fresher and more immediate than their Pressenda and Ravera labels, this can already be enjoyed in its first years in the bottle. Serve at 18° C (64° F) after bringing it to room temperature for at least 24 hours.
