What is Malbec?

Malbec is a purple grape variety that produces inky, robust and tannic red wines. It is one of the six grapes allowed in the blend of red Bordeaux wine, but it is also widely grown in Argentina, where it has become the country's signature grape. Malbec originated in France, where it was first known as Auxerrois or Côt, and later as Pressac. Malbec wines are typically full-flavoured, fruity and spicy, with nuances of leather, smoke and vanilla.
