The Fattoria di Calappiano in Vinci was commisioned way back in 1500 by Grand Duke Francesco I de Medici Prince of Palazzo Vecchio, which is an incredible title. The idea being that he wanted a Tuscan farm with wine production, olive groves and a hunting reserve for his guests to enjoy. Today it's owned by the Sensi family and produces fantastic Chianti. Mainly Sangiovese with a little Canaiolo, the wine is aged in oak barrels for 2 years and a further 3 months in bottle before release. A big, bold chianti full of plush dark fruits, rich tannins and an intense hit of black pepper spice on the finish. Pairs perfectly with a roast dinner or game dishes in the Autumn.
