Cortese, Nostru Organic Frappato 2022

Get to know: Cortese, Nostru Organic Frappato

Tasting Note

This is a brand new wine for us and what a stunner for this spring and summer. Light, soft and juicy with ripe morello cherries, strawberry and redcurrant and a very subtle smoked, savouriness about it adding some complexity. It's low in tannins so could even be served lightly chilled

Try as an aperitif or with tempura veggies or grilled fish dishes.

In the Press

"In Sicily, one grape variety that is particularly adept at making lipsmacking lighter reds is frappato, with Agricola Cortese’s version beautifully capturing frappato’s characteristically perfectly ripe strawberry fruit in a wine to herald the beginning of spring."

David Williams - The Guardian March 2024

Kate Says

"Beaujolais drinkers take note, this needs to be on your summer drinking list. It's a light and crunchy red with lovely morello cherry fruit with a touch of savoury and spice on the finish. I like it lightly chilled, but doesn't need to be."

Producer Info

Cortese, produce wine in the most traditional and natural way to reflect the true character of the estate’s terroir and its grape varieties. Taking tradition as their inspiration, they employ ancient wine-making techniques such as fermentation in terracotta. The resulting wines reflect the combination of modern technology and traditional techniques, with every nuance of the terroir showing through.

The must is fermented on the skins with frequent remontage during the early stages of fermentation. Once fermentation is finished, they continue the skin contact for about 15 days with one very soft remontage a day. Malolactic fermentation occurs naturally once separated from the skins. The wine is kept on its very fine lees for about 6-8 months before being bottled.
