Tasting Note

The Biscardo Neropasso is one of those Italian red wines that just gets what you’re after. It’s lush and full-bodied, with bags of black cherry, ripe plum, and a gentle aroma of warm spices like clove and vanilla. There’s a touch of richness from the Appassimento method, which gives it that “baby Amarone” feel – bold, smooth and velvety, but not too heavy on the tannins. Perfect for those who love their reds rich, rounded and ready to drink.

Top food pairings:

  • Mushroom risotto – earthy and rich, a perfect vegan match for this full-bodied red.

  • Mature cheddar or aged gouda – salty cheeses bring out the wine’s ripe fruit and spice.

  • Slow-cooked lamb or veggie moussaka – the wine’s richness stands up beautifully to hearty, layered dishes.

This is a brilliant wine for pasta too – especially lasagne or a tomato and aubergine bake.

Kate Says

"A wine that's easy to love - and there's been a lot of love for Appasimiento. Once people try the expressive sweet fruit they can't wait to tell someone. It feels like a word-of-mouth success and it's quickly become a bestseller."

Producer Info

The Biscardo wine legacy goes way back – all the way to 1878 – when the Biscardo family started making wine in Bussolengo, in Italy’s Veneto region. That’s over 140 years of winemaking know-how, handed down through generations. Today, brothers Maurizio and Martino Biscardo carry the torch, blending tradition with modern flair.

Their Neropasso Rosso Veneto IGT is an excellent example of their craft. It’s made using the Appassimento method, where a portion of the grapes – mainly Corvinone, Corvina, and Cabernet Sauvignon – are left to partially dry before fermentation. This concentrates their sugars and flavours, giving the finished wine that rich, ripe character and velvety depth. After fermentation, it’s aged partly in steel tanks to keep it fresh, and partly in oak tonneaux to add a bit of polish and spice.

Grown in the sun-drenched vineyards of Veneto – with their varied soils and cooling breezes – the grapes get the perfect balance of ripeness and acidity. All of this results in a red wine Italy can be proud of: smooth, fruit-packed, and ridiculously easy to enjoy.
