Domaine Philippe Livera, Fixin 2020

Get to know: Domaine Philippe Livera, Fixin 2020

Tasting Note

A charming and approachable Burgundy that captures the essence of this under-the-radar AOC. With aromas of poached plums, wild raspberry, and a touch of savory herbs and black pepper, the wine is bright and fresh on the palate, with a fine balance of acidity and soft tannins. Fixin, located just north of Gevrey-Chambertin, is often overshadowed by its more famous neighbors, but it produces wines that are both affordable and full of character. Philippe Livera creates wines with elegant finesse, making it a great introduction to the appellation’s potential

Try this with grilled lamb, games and hard French cheese. Or try a roasted beetroot and goat cheese salad it walnuts.

Kate Says

We love picking up gems like this. This is a wonderful Pinot Noir from a talented winemaker that will really shine in 3-5 years if you can resist it. A great gift for the wine connoisseur who knows their stuff.

Producer Info

This 8.5-hectare domaine was founded in 1920 by the great grandfather of Damien Livera, who currently runs the property. Prior to Damien taking over in 2007, the grapes (from old vines planted in the 50s and 60s) were sold to the large Beaune negociants. However, since 2007, there has been a total regeneration of the domaine – low yields, a strict form of lutte raisonnée, no herbicides, manual working of the soils and a total upgrading of the vineyards and a new winery - and a resultant quantum leap in quality. We were absolutely smitten by the concentration, generosity of fruit and precision of these outstanding wines.
