What is Cabernet Sauvignon?

Cabernet Sauvignon is the star of Bordeaux. It is one of the world's most recognised red wine grapes and is grown in a variety of different climates. It tends to produce full bodied wines with high tannins and an acidity which adds to the wine’s aging potential.

What does Cabernet Sauvignon wine taste like?

Cabernet Sauvignon is a think skinned grape that produces powerful and full bodied wines and often offers flavours of:

Blackcurrant, Cassis, Liquorice, Cedar, Eucalyptus

Where it is grown can have a large effect on the wine it produces. The grape shows juicier, fruity notes in warmer climates, with higher alcohol. In cooler climates however, Cabernet wine can have more structure with grippy tannins and more savoury flavours.

Where does it come from?

Cabernet Sauvignon is grown all over the world. You will find it in lots of wines from Bordeaux, particularly those from the left bank of the river Gironde where it shines as the dominant grape often blended with Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Look to the less premium wines from Australia or Argentina if you’re after something juicy & fruity.
