Sottano, Judas Malbec 2021

Get to know: Sottano, Judas Malbec

The flagship of Sottano’s range — rich, intense and endlessly impressive.

Tasting Note

A powerful Malbec from Mendoza’s high-altitude vineyards that balances bold fruit with elegant structure. This wine pours deep ruby-black and opens with intense aromas of plum, dark cherry, cassis and blueberry, layered with spice, tobacco, mint and a touch of dark chocolate. On the palate it’s broad and full-bodied, brightened by firm acidity and velvet-sweet tannins from 24 months ageing in oak. The finish is long, savoury and persistent, with elegant structure and depth.

Top food pairings:

  • Grilled rib-eye or smoky BBQ cuts
  • Spiced lamb tagine or rich root vegetable stew
  • Cheese: aged Manchego or robust blue cheese
Kate Says

"A Malbec lover's dream. This is a blockbuster, really big, bold sweet dark fruit and layer upon layer of complexity that comes together in an effortlessly balanced finish. This always impresses when we show it at tastings. It makes a superb gift."

Producer Info

Bodega Sottano is a family-run estate in Mendoza’s Pedriel district, run by the fourth generation of the Sottano family. Sitting at around 1,000 m in the foothills of the Andes, the vineyards benefit from warm days and cool nights — ideal for ripe, balanced fruit. :contentReference[oaicite:2]{index=2}

Judas Malbec is sourced from the estate’s best parcels and is fermented in stainless steel with a long cold maceration (plus 35 days total maceration by parcel). The wine is aged for 24 months in 70% French and 30% American oak barrels, with regular racking every four months. It’s bottled without filtration or fining to preserve texture and depth. :contentReference[oaicite:3]{index=3}

How it’s made:

  • 100% Malbec from high-altitude Mendoza vineyards
  • Fermented in large stainless steel tanks with cold soak and extended maceration
  • Aged 24 months in French (70%) and American (30%) new oak barrels
  • Unfined, unfiltered, racked every four months for clarity and texture

Good to know:

  • Region: Mendoza (Pedriel), Argentina
  • Vintage: 2021
  • Grape: 100% Malbec

Why we love it:

It’s rare to find a Malbec that marries raw power with elegance — and Judas does it effortlessly. Rich yet refined, bold yet balanced. An outstanding example of Argentine Malbec at its best.
