Tasted September 2009
Some time ago we bought way to much of this, which turns out to have been a good move for me as it means I've been able to taste it in various stages of development without having to buy a whole case! A recent tasting found it so harmoniously balanced that I thought I'd give you a proper note on it! By the way, the vineyards are Stephanie's own, but the wine is made at her husband Jeffrey Grosset's winery (a handy husband to have!)

Tasting Note Green tints to a yellow gold colour. The nose has crisp lemon and lime aromas with green apple peel and lemongrass spice notes. This is in great nick - beautifully balanced, crisp yet slightly creamy with gentle toffee and butter hints. The citrus fruit and pineapple are harmonised with some vanilla, and this leads onto a long finish with a slight hint of brioche and more tropical fruits. This reminds me of an exceptionally classy chardonnay, only with a bit more fresh citrus fruit character
Cellaring Semillon is very long lived, so this will develop some very interesting characteristics over 2 or 3 years. However, it's superb right now!
If you like this, why not try... Pieropan, Soave La Rocca - Pieropan's top single vineyard Soave, and another example of superb use of barrel ageing |
