I know this is as little bit random but since the focus for my Grape Gossip is Unusual Grape Varieties, I thought this white might be a good one to talk about this month. AND I showed it at a tasting and it was really well received. Chante Cigale is better known for making Chateauneuf-du-Pape and the young winemaker (Alexandre) is fast becoming one of the superstars of this region (and he's only early twenties!).
Grapes: 70% Roussanne 30% Clairette Region: Rhone, France
ABV: 13%
Tasting Note Pear and tropical fruits on the nose with hints of white blossom. On the palate there is zippy acidity, more of the tropical fruits and perfume, with a clean, crisp finish. I have to confess that this is more restrained than I thought it would be but in a good way!
Cellaring Dirnk now or in the next couple of years.
If you like this, why not try... Treat yourself to the Beaucastel White, Coudoulet de Beaucastel Blanc. Another white Rhone this is a bigger style but definitely worth a punt.
